Around 1910, Red Wing civic leaders of the Women’s Community Association and Soldiers Memorial Association combined forces and started work on Memorial Park, a scenic Sorin’s Bluff retreat dedicated to soldiers of all wars. The G.A. Carlson Lime Kiln, built in 1882 on the northeast end of He Mni Can-Barn Bluff, is typical of approximately 30 such kilns in use in the Red Wing area during the period of 1870 to 1908.
