The Perfect Afternoon in Red Wing: Shopping, Sweets, and Scenic Views

One of my absolute favorite things about Red Wing is that no matter how much time you spend here, every visit brings a brand-new adventure. Recently, I spent a picture-perfect afternoon exploring the charm of downtown, treating myself to some ice cream, and taking in the breathtaking views from Memorial Park.

My first stop was Creola’s Boutique. The vibrant, eye-catching storefront draws you in from a block away, making it impossible to pass by without stepping inside. Wandering through local boutiques is always a treat because of the unique finds waiting to be discovered. Inside, the shop is filled with stylish apparel, contemporary accessories, and distinctive gifts—the exact kind of place where you easily lose track of time just exploring the shelves.

With a shopping bag in hand, it was time for a sweet treat. I headed over to Red Wing Confectionery, a beloved downtown staple. Walking inside feels like stepping into a time machine; it’s instantly nostalgic, filled with rows of classic candies, rich chocolates, and homemade sweets. Since it was a beautiful, warm day, I ordered a scoop of ice cream. I took my time enjoying it, soaking up the sunshine, and watching the town buzz with afternoon activity.

To wrap up my day, I made my way to Memorial Park. Instead of driving to the summit, I decided to lace up my shoes and hike. The trail was the perfect opportunity to slow down and appreciate Red Wing’s incredible natural beauty. When I finally reached the top, the reward was unmatched: a panoramic view overlooking the historic city, the winding Mississippi River, and the lush surrounding landscape. It was my very first time visiting the park, and that view alone was worth every single step. Not only are there great vantage points, but the park boasts various amenities such as mountain bike trails, limestone picnic areas, disc golf and a beautiful memorial positioned at the main overlook area. .

By the time late afternoon rolled around, I had checked off some great shopping, indulged my sweet tooth, and stood on top of one of the best overlooks in town. It was a simple day, but honestly, thoseare always the best kind.

If you’re looking for a fun, peaceful way to spend a day, I highly recommend exploring this quaint river town.
