Your Winter Playground

The outdoors aren’t just for summer. Join us here in Red Wing, nature’s playground during all seasons! From the bluffs to the river and everything in between, stay active through the winter months and fight off cabin fever in beautiful Red Wing.

Make Welch Village your alpine headquarters for skiing and snowboarding. Whether you’re just getting started and need lessons or if you’re a seasoned enthusiast, they have something for everyone with various terrain and difficulties. Plan a day trip or check out our Stay and Play Packages. Get a deal for the whole family with a season pass and return every chance you get. Get on the slopes to enjoy some of the best winter scenery and be sure to stay and enjoy live music every Saturday!

Not a fan of the slopes? Get out on some trails! Check out the Cannon Valley Trail or visit Memorial Park for great cross-country skiing and snowshoeing! Wind through hilly wooded terrain and enjoy beautiful and extensive views of Red Wing, the Mississippi River, and surrounding bluffs. Take out your fat tire bike and find a trail for your skill level, from paved to rugged. During the winter months, the Goodhue Pioneer State Trail converts to a snowmobile trail for even more ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Although it now has a different meaning, we can still get out on the lakes. Skate at our outdoor rinks at the Athletic Fields. Or drop a line for winter fishing! Try your hand at ice fishing at Pottery Pond or near any of the Mississippi’s frozen backwaters. Red Wing is also one of the few places in Minnesota where you can find open water for winter fishing. You’ll want to layer for the weather, but, once you’re out on the water, the bounty of walleye and few other boats to navigate will convince you it was certainly worth it.

Bluff Country is known for its bald eagle spotting during their winter migration and Red Wing is a great destination if you’re looking to see these majestic birds. If you don’t plan to do any open-water fishing on the Mississippi, your next-best option would be to head over to Colvill Park to spot eagles roosting in the trees along the banks.

Once the snow flies there’s an abundance of ways to have free winter fun in Red Wing. Minnesota has plenty of snow to go around, so take what you need to build a snowman, or a snow family, or gather some friends and start a friendly snowball fight! And who can get through the winter months without sledding? We’re home to many great hills; grab a friend and find a hill for hours of fun.

Red Wing is pretty in every season. We won’t let the snow stop us from enjoying it, will you? Get out, get active and stay energized in #RedWingMN this winter. #OnlyinMN
