A Day in Red Wing: Biking, a Bakery, and Scenic Overlooks 🚲✨

Sunshine, Scenic Views and Vibrant Murals

Looking for a fun, fresh way to explore Red Wing? I recently spent an unforgettable day biking around town, indulging at a local bakery, and soaking in some of the area’s best scenic views.

Kickstarting the Adventure at the St. James Hotel My day began at the historic St. James Hotel right in the heart of downtown, which doubles as the perfect launch pad thanks to their easy bike rentals. Rolling out on two wheels gave me the ultimate freedom—I could cruise at my own pace, take in the charming river front trails (Levee Park and Bay Point Park), and pull over whenever something caught my eye.

A Sweet Downtown Pit Stop Let’s be honest: no real adventure is complete without snacks. My next stop was the beloved local Hanisch Bakery, and the aroma of fresh pastries 🍩 hit me the second I opened the door. After agonizing over a counter full of donuts and treats, I fueled up for the next leg of my trip.

Soaking in the Scenic Views With a donut-induced energy boost, I traded my bike for a quick hike up the side of a bluff.  I ventured over to 4th Street and gazed upon the beautifully constructed homes. Just a few blocks from the downtown area, I found a trailhead and yes, there were plenty of stairs involved rising to the peak. The panoramic views at the top were worth every step. Once scaling the heights, and taking in my surroundings, I noticed the Goodhue County Historical Society. Although it looked so inviting, I embraced the perfect chance to slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and snap a few photos of Red Wing’s stunning natural landscape. I’ll be sure to plan another visit to enjoy all the exhibits and offerings from the Goodhue County Historical Society during my next visit.

By the time I wrapped up, I’d experienced the absolute best of Red Wing in just a few hours—from the historic downtown and local flavors to the great outdoors. If you’re looking for a perfect day trip, grab a bike and give this itinerary a spin!

From local shops to outdoor views, it was the perfect mix. Pack your sneakers and give this route a try next time you’re in town!
