Day # 1

Theme: Attractions, Playground and Exploration (warmer weather)

Photo Op & look-about: Head to the Red Wing Shoe Co. Flagship Store & Museum (315 Main St.). Kids will love taking a picture with the World’s Largest Boot! Take a few minutes to explore the museum upstairs.  

Playground Time & water fun: Visit Colvill Park (507 Nymphara Ln). This park has a fantastic Universal Playground designed for kids of all abilities. If it is a warm summer day, incorporate time to visit the Aquatic Center (confirm seasonal hours and admission) located within the same parking lot as the playground. Phenomenal pickle-ball courts available (bring your own equipment)

Casual Family Dining at one of the local favorites, Randy’s Restaurant. This menu offers a little bit of something for everyone, known for the broasted chicken, this locally owned establishment offers classic American fare, burgers, and easy drive-thru options.

Doughnuts & Downtown Stroll: Grab an afternoon treat at Hanisch Bakery and Coffee Shop (410 W 3rd St.). Then, stroll the downtown area to explore local boutiques and the game shop. Rivertown Games sells a variety of games, stickers, souvenir t-shirts and gifts. Pull up a chair and try out a new game (staff available to guide you).

Nature Exploration: Drive south to Frontenac State Park for easy, scenic hiking. Check in at the Ranger Station to stamp your state park book. This park offers well-maintained trails and fantastic views of the Mississippi River and Lake Pepin, perfect for bird and eagle watching. 

Dinner: Dine at Liberty’s Restaurant & Lounge (303 W 3rd St.). This family-owned spot has a large, diverse menu with daily specials, lunch buffets and classic meals, -there’s something for everyone.

History You Can Touch: Visit the Pottery Museum of Red Wing (2000 Old W Main St.). This free museum showcases the city’s stoneware heritage. 

Bike or Walk the Trail: Walk or bike a short section of the Cannon Valley Trail. This paved, nearly 20-mile scenic trail is flat and accessible for all ages. You can rent bikes from Rolling River Bike Rental or the St. James Hotel.

Day # 2   

Theme: Baked goods, pizza and video games

Breakfast: Start the day with your continental hotel breakfast or try Mandy’s Coffee and Cafe.

Old West Main St : Explore the charming streets in the West End District.  Step back in time with some nostalgic games and hardware at Video Trading, or name that tune while walking in to Vintage Vinyl. It’s so fun to explore a variety of genres. If they don’t have what you are looking for, they will order it.   

Pizza Buffet: The classic God Father’s Pizza pie is calling your name. Buffet served daily from 11:30am-1pm.

Bluff Views and Disc Golf: Drive up to the Memorial Park Overlook (Sorin’s Bluff) for breathtaking panoramic views of the Mississippi River and the city. Bring your own discs,  play a round of disc-golf during your visit.

Scenic Drive and Bird Experience: Just down the road in Wabasha, get up close and personal with Eagles at the National Eagle 

Books and Puzzles: Before heading out, swing by Fair Trade Books downtown to receive a free book (if your first time visiting), games, puzzles and other stationery available. 

​​Sweet Farewell: Grab a last bite or a special ice cream treat at Red Wing Confectionery or Bev’s Cafe before heading out.
