Coil building is an age-old technique for making a myriad of different pieces of pottery and clay-based artwork. Through this process, you'll learn the techniques for making pottery pieces out of long ropes of clay. You'll make two pieces approximately 12" to 18" each. After class, your pieces will be glazed and fired and ready for pick up at the museum. All levels of ability are welcome, including beginners. The history behind face jugs reaches all the way back to the 1700s with a variety of interesting stories as to why they were created and by whom (check it out online). In this class, you'll start with a 3 pound clay whiskey jug to which you'll add face features of your choosing using clay.
