MORNING WORKSHOP 9:30-11:30
MAKING FINGERINGS FUN!! Don’t get tripped up! This workshop will be about navigating through those tricky passages in a piece that stump us all! We will use two Scottish tunes to focus on fingering and how we can create smoother, faster melodies and gain more control in our playing by simply concentrating on those eight little digits!
LUNCH 11:30-12:30
AFTERNOON WORKSHOP 12:30-2:30
CONCERT 3:00-4:00
Scottish music is steeped in centuries of tradition and it gained great popularity in the U.S. during the folk music revival of the seventies and eighties. The focus of this workshop will be on the different Scottish tune types and their unique characteristics of ornamentation, rhythm, and harmony as well as language and instrumentation. We will apply our new knowledge to learn traditional tunes that sound distinctly Scottish!
Rachel has had a passion for both classical pedal harp music and traditional and contemporary Scottish clarsach music. She is a recent graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, where she studied under harpist and composer, Corrina Hewat. Rachel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Traditional Music. Rachel won the title of US National Scottish Harp Champion in 2016.
