19th Century Frontenac, Minnesota – the Rest of the Story, is an epic undertaking by Lorry Wendland that is a minutely detailed history of the quaint river town of Old Frontenac, the small historic village that nestles along the Mississippi River about 70 miles south of St. Paul. This history is not a traditional narrative study.

Instead, Ms. Wendland draws upon her experience in genealogical family history to essentially resurrect the lives of the settlers, laborers, merchants, farmers, and the subsequent generations of families that have made the village their home. Ms. Wendland also turns her disciplined method of historical research to uncover the 160 year history of the very homes, shops, barns, inns, hotels, and every other building imaginable that has been built, remolded, moved, torn or burnt down by its residents.

The result of this endeavor is a work that is encyclopedic in its completeness that draws upon the personal diaries, letters, deeds, news articles, business contracts, census records, immigration records, marriage certificates, and photographs to tell the history of the pioneers who lived in the village during the 1800s.
